Brown hare: 1. October – 20. January
Its home is the lowlands. Of all the small game species, hunting the brown hare is the most strenuous, as you often have to spend several hours deep ploughing in autumn to become successful.
Hare hunts involve 10 to 20 hunters and at least the same number of drivers in an area of 100 to 200 ha. The best-known hunting methods are the line drive and the U-shaped or circular drive. In the hare-rich areas, 200-300 hares can be shot per day with precise, careful organisation. Hunting can also be combined well with pheasant hunting.
